Art Center Open studios and Treasurer update

Also I wanted to provide a quick COTA update... I am working with Zion to finalize our 2007 2008 grant proposals. I am proposing 4 grants for FAR during the COTA meeting next wednesday the 25th. They are Open studios, GLAMFA, an Annual CSULB MFA BFA review and publication, and also a visiting artist stipend. The first 2 grants are pretty self explanatory.
Regarding the 3rd proposal, Christen and I (as well as Evan of the Photo Guild) have been tossing around the idea of an Annual review exhibition and publication of final year MFA and BFA students. A show (which may just exist virtually for longevity) that is accompanied by a 'yearbook' of artists of sorts. This physical publication would be patterned very loosely after the faculty book that was created a couple years back. This document could be created using ibook, shutterfly or such programs. FAR would publish in limited quantities to distribute to faculty at CSULB and maybe some select other institutions, museums, and galleries (such as Mark Moore) that we hope to build ongoing relationships with for our graduates. This publication could happen in the spring as a preview to the Open studios and GLAMFA to ferment some interest in our department over the summertime and draw larger crowds when the events hit in the fall. Since an ibook can live on virtually on line, any interested party or student could then order as many copies as they like on their own and our extended involvement after creation would be next to nothing. I think short blurb with a link on the Open Studios webpage to direct you to the purchasing site would suffice.
Regarding the fourth proposed grant, if anybody has a suggestion for a great visiting artist that we could bring onto the campus give me an email asap so I can drop some names on the 25th. Many of the other organizations are proposing grants to bring in visiting lecturers and performers. I think it would be a good thing for FAR to take the initiative to bring in a really kick ass visiting artist without the involvement of the department. Just because of recent talk in the graduate seminar course about his local residence, maybe Bill Viola? Anybody got a wish list for this? We can ask for up to $400 - $500 bucks for this so we could get a really great artist in the LA area (to reduce travel and lodging expenses).

GLAMFA Updates
Hi All,
Here are a few new things: GLAMFA will open on Sunday Sept. 9 and close on Thurs. Sept. 20. Carol and McLean will head and coordinate the open studio schedule. Desiree will contact Jocelyn about updating the glamfa site. Andrew Byrom's class is working on possible glamfa logos and show have them to me by the end of March. Once I get some docs from James I will revise the "Call for Entries" form so we can send it out. James, do you have the most current email contact list? - If so, I will forward the revised CFE form to you so you can do the initial send-out.

An occasional Friday will work for me, although I already know that March 9th is out and at least one other Friday in March... I should know more about my schedule in a week when the next MOCA exhibition opens.

Don't foget the Pike on Thursday night. I just realized that it happens to fall on the night Desiree and I have to take down our shows. I can speak for myself and say that I probably won't make it aferall since I have to take everything down myself. Bummer.
Also, would a Friday, every now and then work for us all to meet? We have lots to take care of with GLAMFA and such.
